What is Qual Plus?

We’ve coined the term Qual Plus because it captures not only the way we’ve evolved classic qualitative research techniques but also the spirit of restless thinking, enthusiasm and determination we bring to working on projects. It’s what we do and the way we go about it – it makes the difference between run of the mill and something a bit special.

We’re experienced and expert at all aspects of classic qualitative research, exploring, developing and evaluating – whether it be advertising, branding, design, concepts or strategy. We work across a broad range of sectors and around half of our work involves moderating and coordinating qualitative research on a global basis.

The ‘plus’ element refers to the additional related disciplines we can integrate with our qualitative findings to enrich the final output. To this end, we’ve established a network of trusted collaborators (including semioticians, ethnographers, creative consumers and artists) and we have our own in-house Workshop Director.

We are the only qualitative agency to have a Director of Creativity, Martin Gent. Martin has more than 20 years experience working within Arts and has a passion for bringing his experience into the workplace. From our inception, Martin has played a key role in evolving creativity in Spinach’s culture and is involved in planning and running Qual Plus workshops.

Workshops

It is often useful to integrate workshop activities into our projects in order to create, explore and prioritise ideas, to encourage client teams to collaborate and align and to bring our debriefs to life. We have an in-house Workshop Director who plans and runs workshops in conjunction with our Director of Creativity and qualitative team.

Our Qual Plus workshops tend to be grounded in a qualitative understanding of the target audience and are an excellent way of helping client teams collaborate, explore, prioritise and focus.

International research

Around half our business is international and we’re expert at running global projects to the highest quality standards. We have worked in 60 countries in all 5 continents and have built well established relationships with agencies and freelancers right around the world.

We’re independent, so we’re not tied to any networks. That means we can cherry pick the best people for the specific project. We’re always aiming for excellence and we tend to brief and oversee all international fieldwork suppliers in person and moderate groups conducted in English, where appropriate.
